Dear Colleagues,
Appeal for Assistance in the Community Surveillance of Trees
In view of the large number of trees in Hong Kong, and since the
health and structural conditions of trees change in step with their
normal lifecycle as well as changes in the external environmental
conditions, government as a whole need to keep a close eye on the tree
conditions in our territory. We have been seeking and appealing to
members of the public assistance in reporting to government of
problematic trees in the surroundings.
We appeal to all colleagues, in particular those who perform field and
patrol duties, to join in the community-wide surveillance of trees by
reporting trees with structural and health issues that you come across
so that responsible departments will follow up promptly for mitigation
measures to enhance public safety.
Against the above background, Tree Management Office of the
Development Bureau is arranging a number of talks to enhance the
general knowledge of how to spot problematic trees when colleagues
come across them in their daily work/ in the neighbourhood. Colleagues
are invited to join one of the following classes :
Talk on Community Surveillance of Trees
(a) Objectives
To equip the interested staff with basic knowledge on tree care and
tree risk assessment so that they can spot problematic trees for
reporting.
(b) Target group
All staff who are interested in the topic. Those who have frequent
opportunities of outdoor work would be most welcome.
(c) Date of Training (5 classes)
- 19 November 2012 (Monday) - am and pm;
- 17 December 2012 (Monday) - am and pm; and
- 8 January 2013 (Tuesday) - pm
(d) Training Venue
- Youth Square at Chai Wan
(e) Content of the talk
- Basic tree knowledge and tree care;
- Spot the problematic trees / basic tree risk assessment - concept/
application;
- How to report problematic trees.
